Attorney Profiles: J. Barrington Vaught
Barry is a native of Atlanta, Georgia, having received his preparatory education at The Westminster Schools. He graduated from Washington and Lee University with a B.A. degree, and from the University of Georgia Law School with a Juris Doctor degree. He was admitted to the Georgia Bar and joined Hatcher Stubbs in 1970.
Barry’s practice focuses on residential and commercial real estate transactions, which he oversees from Hatcher Stubbs’ North Office. He also has significant experience and client involvement in transactional matters, corporate law and banking issues. His clients include automobile dealerships, physicians and financial institutions. Barry recently acted as bond counsel to the Columbus Water Works in connection with the issuance of $43,000,000.00 of Revenue Bonds to finance improvements to the Ft. Benning water and sewer systems in anticipation of the Armor School moving to Ft. Benning from Ft. Knox, acted as counsel for a local automobile dealership in connection with the issuance of $8,000,000.00 of Development Authority of Columbus, Georgia bonds and is currently representing a client in connection with the purchase of two automobile dealerships.
Active in the community, Barry has served on non-profit boards such as the Metro Columbus Urban League, United Way, The Columbus Museum, Springer Opera House Association, and Uptown Columbus. From 1985 to 1989, he served as Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Columbus Museum during which time significant funds were raised to rebuild and enlarge the Columbus Museum facility. In 1989, he was appointed to the Georgia Council for the Arts by Governor Joe Frank Harris for a four-year term. He is also active in his church, having been both an Elder and Deacon.
Barry is a member of the Board of Directors of SunTrust Bank and serves as Chairman of the Personal Wealth Management Executive Committee. His hobbies include boating and offshore salt-water fishing.
